Let’s come together as a facilitated workgroup to sense the deep inner knowings that come from our sinews and bones about ‘justice’ and ‘liberation’. What might arise if we pause and sense “all about social justice” or “all about liberation”? When I pause and sense about “justice” I see an image of a large stone rising from under the crust of the earth.
Gene Gendlin wrote, “The practice of Focusing needs a ‘conscious political context’ around it. I don’t mean only that social action is needed. Even for private individual purposes, Focusing needs a structural political consciousness.” Let’s cultivate our political consciousness by sharing resources, experimenting with felt sense exercises, and learning together about what difference it makes when wellness practices like Focusing are interwoven with political awareness.
In this workshop series we will explore felt sensing about ‘social justice’ as a broad theme, and also honor specific interests we each might have like anti-racism, earth justice, feminist activism, LGBTQ+ activism, decolonizing wellness practices, etc.
I am a 57-year-old heterosexual white woman, cis gender, middle class, mostly able-bodied with a chronic pain condition, English speaking, citizen of the USA, vegan. I am anti-racist, and a feminist. I found my way to Focusing about 5 years ago, and was certified in Focusing 2 years ago. My project for certification was a paper on trauma-informed Focusing and how to weave calming and nurturing supports into the Focusing process. I have studied other mind/body methods including Hakomi, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Somatic Experiencing, Massage Therapy, Process Work, and Hypnosis. My academic background is in Sociology and Social Work. I currently work as a library assistant in technical services. My long-term goal is to develop a Focusing training program to support creative action and sustainable self-care for social activists. I live on the unceded traditional homelands of the Multnomah, Clackamas, Chinook, and other Native Tribes that settlers now call Portland, Oregon, USA
